Environmental workshop for journalists of color [US]

Posted on Jul 14, 2022 in Environmental Reporting

Early-career journalists of color interested in environmental issues can attend a free workshop.

Reporting on Water: A Training Workshop for Journalists, organized by the Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources, in partnership with the Uproot Project, provides training for early-career reporters on the do’s and don’ts of covering the environment beat.

This program also gets reporters up-to-speed on the challenges facing freshwater resources – from pollution, to climate change, to non-native species.

Journalists will spend time out in the field and in the lab discussing the challenges of translating science for wider audiences and telling accurate and compelling stories about complicated issues.

Up to 15 applicants will be selected to participate in the workshop which takes place Aug. 21 to 23 in Toledo, Ohio.

IJNR covers food, lodging and local travel for selected journalists. Participating journalists must be or become members of the Uproot Project (there is no membership fee).

The application deadline is July 22.
