Altavoz Lab offers community journalism fellowship [US]

U.S.-based journalists working in English or Spanish for media outlets serving historically underserved communities are eligible.

Altavoz Lab is accepting applications for its 2025 fellowship program, launching on August 18. Fellows will receive grants ranging from US$3,000 to US$8,000 to produce an in-depth reporting project or series in seven months, along with up to US$3,000 in additional funds for an audience engagement project in collaboration with their newsroom or a local partner. They will also attend monthly meetings, workshops and receive mentorship.

Priority will be given to applicants working in regions with low civic health scores, particularly borderland communities in Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, as well as areas such as Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois and Puerto Rico.

The deadline to apply is July 18.
