Indigenous Journalists Association hosts contest [US, Canada]

Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists can compete for an award.

The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) is accepting entries for its 2024 Indigenous Media Awards. The competition recognizes excellence in the reporting, presentation and coverage of stories by Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists across the U.S. and Canada. 

Contestants can be IJA members or non-members. Categories are divided by membership type: professional, associate or student. 

Works must have been published, broadcast or posted in 2023.

Winners will be recognized at the Indigenous Media Conference, July 25 to 27 in Oklahoma City. The winner of the Richard LaCourse Award will receive US$500 and the winner of the Medill Milestone Achievement Award will receive US$5,000. The Tim Giago Free Press Award winner will receive US$2,500.

The deadline is March 8. The regular cost is US$25 per entry for professionals, US$10 for students and US$50 for non-members.
