Communicators in India can join this in-person workshop on climate impacts.

Internews' Earth Journalism Network (EJN) is organizing a three-day Communicators' Workshop on Uncounted Loss and Damage in the Bay of Bengal, focusing on communities living along the Bay of Bengal coast. The workshop will be held in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India, from June 19 to 21.

The workshop aims to build participants' knowledge of Non-Economic Loss and Damage (NELD) -  climate impacts that are not easily quantifiable, such as cultural loss, displacement and mental health, particularly in vulnerable coastal communities.

Participants will have the opportunity to go on a field trip to climate-impacted areas near Visakhapatnam and interact with members of a coastal community to understand the situation firsthand. With support from EJN mentors, communicators will explore how to apply the solutions journalism framework to their stories and refine their ideas for coverage in small-group discussions.

Applicants should be communicators based in India from print, online, radio and television outlets. Preference will be given to applicants from West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. Women and early- and mid-career professionals are especially encouraged to apply.

Applicants must have some experience reporting on social and/or environmental issues with a focus on climate change.

The organizers will cover the cost of travel, accommodation and meals for selected participants.

Apply by April 25.
