Radio stations on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border are using women's voices to counter militant propaganda -- a bold move in a society that still marginalizes women in many ways, according to an article in The Hoot.

The federal government launched four radio stations in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) in 2006: Khyber Radio is an FM channel, Radio Razmak and Miran Shah Radio Station are broadcast on medium wave (MW) frequency and a third MW station was destroyed in April. Broadcasts are a mix of music, news reports and religious programs.

All female broadcasters work from Peshawar and are not physically operating from FATA.
