At least 109 journalists were killed in 2008, according to a report recently released by the press freedom advocacy group the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ).
According to the document, journalists and media workers were killed either intentionally or accidentally last year while on assignment, and Iraq is still the most dangerous country for journalists with 16 deaths in 2008.
The group also recorded 10 deaths each in Mexico and India, and warned that Pakistan, where 7 journalists were killed, and the Philippines, with 9 victims, have also become more dangerous places for journalists.
