Photojournalists interested in microfinance can enter a competition.

Organized by the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor (CGAP), the 2010 top prize went to Mohammed Rakibul Hasan for “The Tannery Industry.” Hasan took the photograph, in which hundreds of hides turn golden in the sun, in his hometown of Dhaka, Bangladesh, where there are many small tanneries. A slide show of all the winners is available online here.

The first place winner is awarded a microfinance training scholarship to the Boulder Program in Turin, Italy, (including economy airfare) or another development training opportunity agreed with CGAP up to a maximum value of US$5,000 or a US$2,000 gift certificate for photography equipment and accessories.

Judges include professional photographers and microfinance leaders. The judges for the 2010 Microfinance Photography Contest were Suzanne Lemakis, curator of Citi’s fine arts collection; Norris Brock, Emmy award winning director of photography and freelance photojournalist Joshua Roberts.

Contestants can enter up to 20 photos each. For more information, click here.
