Online course to train Latin American media professionals on new business models

Journalists, editors and media managers are invited to participate in an online course on new business models for journalism, offered by the Digital Journalism Center. Deadline: May 7.

The course id comprised of an online as well as an in-class component. The online course is scheduled for June 19 to July 30, followed by the in-class component from August 18 to 20 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Participants will learn the commercial side of journalism, including how to make digital media profitable, and they will examine business models in Latin America. Topics include: How to finance quality journalism in digital media; identifying your target market; studying your competition and how to distinguish yourself from it; writing a marketing plan; leadership and team management; and writing a business plan.

The course is administered by the Digital Journalism Center in Guadalajara, with the support of the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ).
