New Web site integrates rural and urban radio in Bolivia
The digital platform Santa Cruz Hoy was recently launched in Bolivia with the goal to connect rural radio stations and broadcast the work of journalists from different regions in the country.
Among the site's features are: radio broadcasts from rural areas of Santa Cruz to the rest of the country and the world, podcasts organized by theme and region, live radio, and a section for complaints and suggestions, surveys, and photogalleries. The innovative initiative is a joint effort by the International Center for Journalists, through the Knight International Journalism Fellowships, and Radio Fides Santa Cruz.
Journalist Celia Cernadas, who led the initiative, said in an interview with IJNet that besides combining text, photo, and sound, the new platform allows journalists to feature weekly news, creating a record of each population. The Knight International Journalism Fellow in Bolivia, Cernadas added that the Web site will offer information often ignored by the mainstream media.
