A media training institute in Bahrain will open its doors in 2007 for local journalists, according to the Gulf News Web site.

Bahraini officials announced the initiative, which plans to offer a wide range of training programs for journalists in the region as well as media relations officers. According to the report, the institute would also offer consulting and contracted training services to the Bahraini government.

It would be the first of its kind in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The London-based City University is contributing staff and expertise to the effort.
