Flexible copyright licensing to launch in Hong Kong
Deadline:
Next month, Hong Kong's Journalism and Media Studies Centre will host an event to launch a new set of flexible copyright licenses in Hong Kong.
Creative Commons (CC) is a copyright license that defines the spectrum of possibilities between full copyright (all rights reserved) and the public domain (no rights reserved), allowing anyone to "mark their work with the freedoms they want it to carry," according to the group's Web site. In other words, it is a "some rights reserved" copyright.
The October 25 launch party will feature speeches by CC CEO Joi Ito and CC founder Lawrence Lessig, a panel discussion, musical and theatrical performances, open courseware demonstrations and blogger workshops -- all aimed to demonstrate how CC's approach to copyright can facilitate creativity, innovation, and strengthen young people's understanding of copyright.
On October 24, Lessig will give a speech on media entitled "Free Culture and Free Society: Can the West Love Both?"
