Film screening and discussion on investigative reporting [Haiti]
The public is invited to attend a showcase of investigative journalism projects and a discussion about investigative journalism in Port-au-Prince.
FOKAL, an independent organization in Haiti, will host the fifth showing of the investigative film and debate series, “Truth on the Drum” on August 6 at 4 p.m. in Port-au-Prince.
The event will showcase investigations conducted by Haitian journalists and will include video clips, radio highlights and print stories. The local reporters involved in the production of these pieces will attend, as will Haitian documentary film maker Rachèle Magloire, who will show a clip from her documentary “La Tour Inachevée – The Unfinished Tower,” Haiti’s “Eiffel Tower.”
The series offers an opportunity to get together and talk about investigative reporting. Saturday’s program offers local investigative journalists a chance to share their work with the public and demonstrate what can be done in Haiti.
The series was organized by Knight International Journalism Fellow Kathie Klarreich, who has been training, coaching and mentoring Haitian journalists in investigative reporting in partnership with the Association of Haitian Media (ANMH) and the Association of Haitian Journalist and Haiti Reporters. The other partners in the film series include Ayiti Kale Je (a partnership of SAKS, AlterPresse and Refreka) and FOKAL.
