Discussion on media, elections follows film-screening [Haiti]
Date:
The relationship between media and elections will be discussed after a film-screening of "Ides of March" in Haiti.
The film is about a fictional U.S. presidential election, the strategies used by election campaigns and the importance of communication. It focuses on how and at what price a political candidate can use media to influence public opinion.
The screening is part of the Verite Sou Tanbou series created by the International Center for Journalists, Haiti Grassroots Watch (Ayiti Kale Je) and The Foundation of Knowledge and Freedom (FOKAL).
The project was created last spring to bring together journalists, journalism students and those interested in the role of the media by exposing them to various films and documentaries involving investigative journalism.
Each projection is followed by a debate to on the various ways the media can play a role in holding people, organizations and governments accountable.
The film will be shown at 4 p.m. Saturday, January 28 at FOKAL.
