D.C. panel discussed challenges facing Haiti's media

Date: 6/30/09

Panelists at a recent event on media in Haiti told the audience, in Washington, D.C., that journalists and media organizations in the country need more training opportunities, as well as proper regulation.

Panelists also discussed the need to develop sponsorship projects to foster the financial viability of the Haitian media.

Among the major challenges facing Haitian media are: the creation of media legislation; content regulation including radio, TV and Internet; the need for high-tech journalism training; advertising; media investment; and a code of ethics.

The panel discussion was hosted by the Washington-based Inter-American Dialogue and led by Internews, an international media development organization.
