Does the term journalist mean

Does the term journalist mean media houses as well ? For me the battle to hold the big man accountable and responsible is lost on the broader pictures of media ownership and control. it is unforttunate that the bigger men own the very media houses if not they strangle the channels of advertisements the life line of the so called indepent media.
