Journalists with innovative ideas about improving digital communication can participate in this contest.
Accessnow.org, a nongovernmental organization pushing for digital freedom, invites innovators to participate in its Access Innovation Prize 2012. Applicants should submit feasible and original ideas that employ information technology to promote and enable human rights and social good.
Applicants can submit ideas that fall into one of five categories, two of which are the "Golden Jellybean," which focuses on the promotion of communication technologies, and the "Access
Facebook Award," which focuses on the use of Facebook as a platform to enact change.
The winner in each category will receive US$20,000.
To apply, applicants are asked to address: the basic idea and why it is needed; who will make use of it; the code, bits and platforms of the technology; how to make it happen; how to keep it going; potential risks; and the idea's track record.
The application deadline is Aug. 15.
