Saudi TV channel to focus on child rights education

The first TV channel in Saudi Arabia dedicated to educating children about their rights will begin broadcasting this month, reported the Saudi Gazette.

The new channel, Sana, is an offshoot of the three-year-old Children’s Rights Awareness campaign, which was launched by the Saudi Ministry of Culture and Information.

The satallite channel will broadcast in Arabic 24 hours a day from Cairo and will feature cartoons and songs designed by international child behavior specialists.

The  campaign has identified 10 basic rights of all children, namely: growth and development; respect for the child’s identity and culture; rest and leisure time; access to appropriate financial conditions; the right of disabled children to live a happy life; the right to housing, education and to express opinions; and the right to care and guidance.
