Legal defense available for journalists through new organization

A non-government organization that provides legal support to media professionals was recently launched in London. The Media Legal Defence Initiative (MLDI) aims to protect free expression around the world.

Support services include legal fees, legal advice, strategic litigation and media law training. It also provides for an exchange of experiences among media lawyers.

MLDI previously worked to defend defamation suits in Thailand and the Phillipines.

I'll agree that journalists need legal defense as long as they engage in legal actions to practice journalism. Still, if they show signs of abuse and aggression or even illegalities for getting the information they need then not even the lawyers in Washington DC should be able to help them.

This kind of NGO's are really

This kind of NGO's are really essential to provide legal support to the media professionals. The expression of the media people should be respected in every part of the world.I must say that the proper security systems should be given to the media people including legal fees, advice and media training. MLDI has also provided the medium of experience exchange among the media lawyers which is the very important part of the organization. Regards,
