A new initiative aims to to enhance media worldwide
An initiative that aims to build news organizations in developing countries, promote female newspaper managers in Africa and support press freedom worldwide was launched.
The project is a collaboration of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAH-IFRA).
Projects will include assisting financial sustainability of local news media in developing countries and conducting an exchange program between female executives at Swedish newspapers and women at African papers.
Anders Nordstorm, SIDA's general director, suggested that "strengthening the management and economic independence of the media sector is of vital importance for domestic accountability."
