ICFJ Knight Fellow Ravi Bajpai is helping top Indian newsrooms improve their coverage of critical health and development issues. His work develops reporters’ expertise in interactive, multimedia storytelling, particularly mobile video, and helps media organizations better engage their audiences online.

He was previously the multimedia editor at the Hindustan Times, one of India's leading national news dailies. In his various assignments as a journalist over the past 10 years, he has worked with The Indian Express, managing their Delhi city reporting bureau, and with Mail Today as Deputy Bureau Chief for the city reporting team. He has reported extensively on politics, urban governance and law and order. Bajpai’s videos on public health and development issues have been published in The Economist (London) and CCTV (China). He specialises in DSLR/mobile phone news videos, with a focus on narrative for digital audiences.

In his previous role at the Centre for Science and Environment, Bajpai focused on data journalism. His research on the subject was published recently in Data Journalism in Asia. He is the founding editor of multimedia news magazine Climate Journal Asia.

Bajpai is an alumnus of the Konrad Adenauer Asian Center for Journalism at Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines, and the Indian Institute of Mass Communication in Delhi, India. He has taught reporting at the Express Institute of Media Studies, a journalism training school in Delhi that’s managed by The Indian Express group. He has also been a programme lead for the post-graduate course in convergent journalism at the AJK Mass Communication Centre at the Jamia Millia Islamia university in Delhi. He has been a video trainer at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Delhi.
