Argentina congress will examine social responsibility in journalism

Latin American journalists are invited to a congress organized by the Argentine group Foro de Periodismo Argentino (FOPEA) on social responsibility in the media and journalism. The meeting will be held on November 20 and 21 at Universidad de Palermo in Buenos Aires.

Asian radio broadcasters invited to Delhi conference

Asian radio broadcasters are invited to attend a conference in Delhi, India to discuss pressing matters facing the industry. The 6th annual RadioAsia conference will be held from February 22 to 24.

Environmental journalists encouraged to enter competition

Environmental journalists from developing countries are encouraged to submit published print articles on ozone depletion prevention to a contest sponsored by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP). Deadline: December 31. Submissions must be published news stories and articles in newspapers, journals and periodicals authored by young journalists.

Scottish broadcaster STV has launched a competition to recruit new online columnists. The winner of the contest will receive a six-month contract with STV worth a minimum of £5,000 (US$8,193). Deadline: November 6.

Journalists from around the world can submit videos, photos or short stories on what they seek to change in the world, to a contest being organized by Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW). Deadline: December 4.

Multimedia contest invites submissions on 'global solutions'

Artists, webmasters, graphic designers, poets, video artists and creative activists worldwide are eligible to participate in a multimedia contest. Deadline is November 17. Entries should be interactive storytelling under the theme, "Choose Your Global Solution," discussing world challenges such as nuclear weapons, women's rights or human rights.

Digital newspaper archive available through Egypt's Alexandria Library

<p>Egypt's <a href=" http://www.bibalex.org/Arabic/index.aspx" target="_blank">Alexandria Library</a> recently launched a digital archive that includes tens of thousands of articles published in Egyptian newspapers, including those first published in the earliest editions of leading newspaper <em>Al Ahram</em>, in 1876.
