Women in senior editorial roles can compete for an award.

The World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), in partnership with the Swedish International Development and Cooperation Agency (Sida), is accepting nominations for the Women in News Editorial Leadership Award.

The award will recognize one woman editor from Sub-Saharan Africa and one from the MENA region who are first amongst their peers in inspiring and paving the way forward for the next generation of leaders.

Nominees must have a proven track record of success within their newsroom, demonstrated uncompromising editorial integrity  and a strong commitment to the principles of press freedom and its power to promote democracy and good governance.

The winners will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to attend the World News Media Congress June 9 to 7 in Durban, South Africa.

The deadline is March 1.
