UNESCO seeks freedom of expression project officer

Communication professionals with experience in issues related to freedom of expression can apply for this position based in Paris.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) seeks a senior project officer for its communication and information sector.

The successful candidate will work on the project, "Promoting an Enabling Environment for Freedom of Expression: Global Action with Special Focus on the Arab Region," which promotes the development of free media at a global level, as well as in the Arab region and South Sudan. The project is funded by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).

The senior project officer will advise the director of division, the chief of the section and other colleagues and stakeholders on various issues related to freedom of expression globally and in the countries covered by the project.

Applicant requirements include an advanced university degree (master's or equivalent) in communication or information sciences, political science, international relations, international development or in another area covered by the work of the Freedom of Expression Section; seven to 10 years of professional experience in freedom of expression, four years preferably acquired at the international level; and experience and expertise in partnership-building with specialized bodies.
