Journalists interested in covering hate groups can register for this online course.

News University, the Poynter Institute e-learning project, is offering the course "Covering hate and extremism, from the fringes to the mainstream: an overview from the Southern Poverty Law Center" at 12 p.m. EST Feb. 14.

Participants will explore trends in hate and extremism; learn how hate and extremism movements have fared over the last year and what their future looks like; understand the mainstreaming of these movements; get resources for covering this topic; and more.

The instructor is Heidi Beirich, director of the Southern Poverty Law Center’s Intelligence Project.

This course is sponsored by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
