Knight Center offers online course on data visualization [Worldwide]

Journalists and journalism students interested in infographics can register for a six-week online course.

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas will host an online course on interactive data visualization for the web using D3.js.

The course will be offered Aug. 17 to Sept. 27 and taught by Alberto Cairo and Scott Murray. Cairo is a professor at the School of Communication of the University of Miami. Murray is a code artist who writes software to create data visualizations and other interactive phenomena.

Participants will learn how to display information using charts, maps, diagrams and visual narratives, and how to bring them to life using d3.js, a Javascript library.

The first 50 registrants will receive a full ebook copy of "Interactive Data Visualization for the Web" by Scott Murray. All participants will receive ebook copies of the introduction and first two chapters of Alberto Cairo's books, "The Functional Art," and the upcoming "The Truthful Art," due out in 2016.

Registration is ongoing, but spots are limited. The cost of the course is US$95
