Deadlines & Deities: a handbook for reporting on religion

Deadlines & Deities: a handbook for reporting on religion | June 08, 2011

Providential timing: now that even general assignment reporters may find themselves writing about religion or religious groups, John Dart has released the second edition of the free handbook "Deities & Deadlines."

Dart has decades of experience covering religion news for the Los Angeles Times; the 49-page guide will keep reporters from making basic mistakes, noting that for instance that “it’s ‘Reform’ Judaism, not ‘Reformed’ Judaism” and explaining the difference between “spirituality” and “spiritualism.” The guide also offers tips on finding resources to further reporting on religious issues.

You can download the PDF version of the guide here.
