How have you used social media in your reporting?

Reporters can find a wealth of information on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn, but most journalists could get even more story ideas from social media.

Krista Canfield, LinkedIn’s senior manager of corporate communications, told IJNet that journalists often overlook stories they can find on LinkedIn by using its advanced job search and company search functions.

How have you used LinkedIn or other social networks to find stories? What stories did you find?

Facebook!?

While LinkedIn and maybe Twitter are more reliable, Facebook [especially in my society] is not advisable.

As a reporter, you may find a Newsworthy evnts, or Invitation on the Social Media but writtin and working on the story depends on you.

The Social Media can as well be useful for follow Ups.

But I it gives over the traditional way of gathering story is Relationship Building. U can add your potential people and reader/viewer/listener before you need them, As it's in Public Relations- We make friends before we need them.

However, just as we trained as journalist, there's reason to train [or further /retrain] as Online Journalists.

Thanks!

the reliable source of news idea

in countries were news organizations are own and control by governments, access to information is restricted. So the advent of social media to these countries help the citizines to have a kind of information freedom including journalist. so i use social media to get an idea of developing a story that will touch the lives of my people positively as a journalist.

RELIABLE

It should be noted that if the Larger part of the media are own and control by the Govt, access to the internet can also be. There could be laws restricting your access to the social media.

However, Journalists should should be abreast of the development in the ICT and make proper uses of the DIGITAL community!

The regular laws and ethics can never be over emphasis.
