Bill aims to tighten broadcast restrictions in Pakistan

Laws enforced by Pakistan's former President Pervez Musharraf on electronic media are being incorporated into the proposed Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Act, according to the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.

Proposed amandements would make it illegal for any television channel to broadcast footage of a suicide bomber, a terrorist, bodies of victims of terrorism, statements or pronouncements of extremists, militants and terrorists. Moreover, it proposes that the committee will hold talks with media professionals that broadcast any program against Pakistani culture or that cause confusion.
