New report explores limited access to information in Africa
The U.S.-based Carter Center recently released a report on access to information in Africa. The report, "Regional Findings and Plan of Action," is a result of the recent African Regional Conference on the Right of Access to Information held February 7 to 9, in Accra, Ghana.
The report states that access to information is a fundamental human right and that all bodies of the international and regional communities should continue to advance this right. Specifically, the report acknowledges that Africa’s political and institutional constraints have limited flow of information.
The report provides a plan of action entailing the responsibilities of the international community, the state and corporate, professional and civil society organizations in changing the lack of access to information.
