OSI to celebrate 30 years of civil rights organization, Grassroots Leadership
On March 10 the Open Society Institute (OSI) will celebrate the organization Grassroots Leadership for its civil rights work in the U.S. South since its inception in 1980. In May, the organization’s founder folksinger/songwriter Si Kahn will retire from Grassroots Leadership.
At the event, speakers will reflect upon the organization's decades of work and share thoughts on its future directions with the new executive director Donna Red Wing. The event will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. in New York.
Grassroots Leadership currently directs campaigns to abolish for-profit private prisons and immigrant family detention, stop prison expansion, and end the 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement agencies to contract with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to act as ICE agents.
